Vienna, November 27. The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Dr. Eduardo Martinez Diaz held today a meeting with managers and officials of the Division of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Department of Technical Cooperation of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
During the meeting, the status of Cuba's Program Framework and the implementation of IAEA technical cooperation projects in Cuba were reviewed. Both parties reiterated their interest in expanding the country's access to the benefits of the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The Cuban Deputy Prime Minister reiterated Cuba's willingness to expand cooperation with the IAEA in key areas such as the treatment of oncological diseases.
The Director of the Division of Latin America and the Caribbean of the IAEA Department of Technical Cooperation, Mr. Luis Longoria, expressed the Agency's willingness to continue cooperation with Cuba and acknowledged the level of preparation of Cuban professionals involved in the implementation of joint projects.
Dr. Eduardo Martinez is chairing the Cuban delegation to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications and the Technical Cooperation Program, which takes place in Vienna, Austria, from November 26 to 28, 2024.
As part of his work agenda, he has participated in the Ministerial Segment of the Conference, as well as in parallel events and other activities held in the context of the meeting. In addition, he plans to hold meetings with executives of international organizations based in Vienna and with other delegations participating in the Conference.
