June 11, 2019. Cuba's Foreign Affair Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, arrived in Trinidad and Tobago, the first stop of a visit of the Caribbean to further strengthen relations with the region.

"I arrived on an official visit to Trinidad and Tobago, our sister nation of the Caribbean, to which historic ties of friendship and cooperation unite us," Rodriguez said in his Twitter account.

Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago established diplomatic relations on December 8, 1972 and since then both countries maintain ties of brotherhood and agreements in various sectors such as commerce, health and transportation.

In 1974, the two nations signed an air transport agreement that allowed the development of a program of transportation of passengers, cargo and mail to both countries.

In January 2018, the airline Caribbean Airlines made its inaugural flight on the route that links Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago, a destination that favors the consolidation of relations between the Caribbean countries and greater regional integration.

Also, the Cuban authorities are grateful for the unwavering support of Trinidad and Tobago in the fight for the elimination of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, exacerbated in recent months with the activation of Chapter III of the Helms-Burton Act.

Said section qualify as genocide in the norm, and establishes the authorization to American citizens to present before courts of their country, lawsuits against foreigners for a supposed traffic with properties that were object of nationalizations in Cuba in 1960.

The Cuban foreign minister will also make official visits to Santa Lucia; Guyana, where he will participate in the VI Caricom-Cuba Ministerial Meeting; and Barbados.

According to Deputy Foreign Affair Minister Rogelio Sierra, bilateral relations with countries of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) are in excellent condition.

This visit by Minister Bruno Rodríguez and the celebration of the VI Ministerial Meeting of Caricom-Cuba in Guyana will help to strengthen the deep bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation that unite our nations, stressed Sierra.

Before starting his visit, the Cuban foreign minister expressed through his Twitter account that "#Caribe will always be able to count on #Cuba. Our relationships are based on deep bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation ».

He also stressed that Cuba supports the claim of a differentiated treatment for the small island states of the Caribbean in the face of climate change.

"It is disturbing the rising vulnerability of our nations to the effects of this phenomenon. # CubaCaribe," said the head of Cuban diplomacy.
