CUBA'S REPORT AGAINST THE BLOCKADE IN 2024 SEPTEMBER, 22, 2024

Between March 2023 and February 2024, the US government maintained the policy of maximum pressure against Cuba and the rigorous application of the economic, commercial and financial blockade as its fundamental axis.
The blockade caused material damages and losses to Cuba estimated in the order of 5 thousand 56.8 million dollars. Taking into account the behavior of the dollar against the value of gold in the international market, this policy has caused quantifiable losses of more than 1 trillion 499 thousand 710 million dollars.
It is estimated that, if the blockade did not exist, Cuba's GDP at current prices could have grown by around 8% in 2023.
Some of its specific effects are:
- 25 days of blockade are equivalent to the financing required to cover the needs of the country's Basic List of Medicines for one year (approximately 339 million dollars).
- 4 months of blockade are equivalent to the financing needed to guarantee the delivery of the standard family basket of products to the population for one year (approximately 1.6 billion dollars).
- 18 days of blockade are equivalent to the annual cost of maintenance (not including fuel and investments) of the National Electric Power System (approximately 250 million dollars).
- 7 months of blockade are equivalent to the financing required to acquire the buses necessary for public transportation in the country (approximately 2.85 billion dollars).
These data show that the current challenges of the Cuban reality would have a better and easier solution if Cuba could have access to the considerable resources of which the blockade deprives it.
The 2024 Cuba against the blockade report provides more factual information and valuable data to reinforce the denunciation of this serious injustice. See its content here
