In the framework of the annual meeting of the Association of Danish-Cuban Friendship held on March 9 in Copenhagen, the Danish solidarity adopted a declaration that strongly rejects the new aggressive escalation of the United States aimed at intensifying the blockade and extending the extraterritorial effect of this policy.
The Cuban ambassador in Denmark, Yiliam Gómez Sardiñas, explained in her speech the recent US decision to apply Title III of the Helms-Burton Act to Cuban companies included in a unilateral list of sanctions, with which they intend to suffocate the Cuban economy while ignoring the claim of the international community to end the blockade. The diplomat conveyed to the participants the will of the Cuban government and people to continue defending their sovereignty and building socialism, as ratified in the new Constitution of the Island, recently approved by a large majority.
The members of the Association reaffirmed their solidarity with Cuba and agreed to continue developing actions to denounce this genocidal policy and in favor of lifting the blockade. Prior to the declaration approved at its annual meeting, on January 26th they had sent an open letter to the Danish authorities, where they rejected the threat of activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act and the extraterritorial nature of this legislation which is a violation of the international law.
