We, the Belize-Cuba Solidarity Group, denounce the decision of the government of the United States of America to label Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism. This action undermines international law, strains diplomatic relations, and unjustly penalizes the Cuban people.
The designation of a state as a sponsor of terrorism is a grave accusation that carries significant political, economic, and social consequences. It should be based on concrete evidence of active support for terrorist activities. In the case of Cuba, no such evidence has been presented that justifies this designation.
Cuba has a long history of advocating for peace, solidarity, and cooperation among nations. Its contributions to international health, education, and humanitarian efforts are well-documented and widely recognized. Cuban medical brigades have provided critical assistance in disaster-stricken areas worldwide, including supporting Belize during the COVID-19 pandemic. These actions are incongruent with the label of a terrorist state.
We urge a return to dialogue and engagement based on mutual respect and understanding. We can only address global challenges and foster a more just and peaceful world through constructive diplomacy.
In solidarity with the Cuban people, we appeal to the international community to join us in advocating for justice, fairness, and the principles of international law.
We reiterate our call for the United States to immediately and unconditionally lift the embargo illegally imposed on Cuba and demand the remove of Cuba from the unilateral list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
