A delegation of high-level Nigerian scientists participates in the BioHabana 2022 International Conference in Cuba.

Nigeria, April 27, 2022. With topics related to the management of COVID19, cancer immunotherapy and agricultural biotechnology, the BioHabana 2022 International Scientific Conference was inaugurated in Cuba, which will run from April 25 to 29, at the Palacio of the Conventions of the Cuban capital.

Attracted by scientific interest, collaboration and strengthening exchanges in this area, a large delegation made up of members of different relevant scientific institutions in Nigeria participates in the event. Representatives from the Nigerian Ministry of Health, the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), Anambra University (Unizik Anambra), the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) and the Sheda Science and Technology Complex (SHESTCO), a laboratory under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. It also included Nigerian representatives in the West African Health Organization (WAHO)

Said delegation, parallel to the event, has developed a group of visits to Cuban scientific institutions and exchanged with Cuban directors on topics of common interest, where the Nigerian ambassador to Cuba, His Excellency Okoyen Benaoyanha Bernard Mese, was also present.

Around a thousand representatives from 51 countries attend the event organized by the Cuban scientific institution BioCubaFarma, whose inauguration on Monday was attended by the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

The island's Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal, opened the second day with a keynote address, in which he praised the government's management that favored the development of medicines and medical devices to combat Covid-19.

Previously, in meetings held by the Cuban ambassador to Nigeria, Clara M. Pulido EscandelI, and the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, they have agreed that the scientific branch, especially biotechnology, is one of the fields where progress in bilateral cooperation.
