Delegation of the National Assembly of the Popular Power (ANPP) participates in the Pan American Parliamentary Network for Gender Equality.

Port of Spain, May 24th, 2018. - As part of the exchange developed by the national parliaments of Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago, an MP of the National Assembly of Cuba, Iris Betancourt Téllez, fulfils an invitation extended by the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago to the 10th Meeting of Pan American Parliamentary Networks for the Gender Equality, on this occasion convened under the theme "Climate Action with a Gender Perspective", which takes place in the Trinidadian capital between May 22 and 25 of this month of May.

Dr. Iris Betancourt Téllez, participates in sessions of exchange of experiences and legislative practices in different parliaments of Latin America and the Caribbean, which should contribute to strengthen the response of each country to the phenomena associated with Climate Change from the incorporation of a gender perspective.

The basis of the exchange assumes that women, as a social group impacted by the consequences of climate change, tend to suffer inequality in access and participation in decision-making processes, which hinders their contribution of knowledge and experience in the design of policies against climate change, as well as its implementation.

The parliamentarians present debate on the critical role they must assume in their respective legislative systems so that the gender perspective in the fight against climate change is taken into account.

During the meeting, the Cuban MP held meetings with her Trinidadian counterparts that will contribute to strengthening parliamentary relations between the two countries.

The Cuban Ambassador accompanied her in several moments of the event.
