A delegation consisting of government ministers and experts from Belize led by Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber recently concluded an official visit to the Republic of Cuba.
The tour was held from May 22-26. Faber was accompanied by Tourism Minister Manuel Heredia Jr. and Health Minister of State Dr. Angel Campos.
The delegation met with Cuban ministers of External Trade, Culture, Tourism and Health. They were officially welcomed by Cuba’s vice President H.E. Salvador Valde’s Mesa.
The group discussed key areas of collaboration between the two countries for multi-destination packages in the tourism sector, possibilities for direct flights, trade and investment, heritage tourism as well as the exploration of policies that respects national patrimony.
During the discussions, Belize expressed interest in Cuba’s policy of training young people living in historic areas with restoration skills.
Belize also received support for a request to train personnel with the skills needed to make the Belize House of Culture more dynamic, participatory and inclusive for at-risk youths and the elderly.
Ten scholarship opportunities were also offered for Cubans to attend the Regional Language Center at the University of Belize, while Cuba offered 13 scholarship for Belizeans in the area of medicine, dentistry, health, technology and tertiary education.
According to a government press release, the Belizean delegation was also featured on several Cuban television stations during their visit.
