Havana, January 22, 2025.- The Deputy Director General for the Americas of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Pelayo Castro Zuzuárregui, held a meeting with the Director General of Bilateral Affairs of MINREX, Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernández, during his working visit to Havana.
The meeting led to a broad exchange on the fourth cycle of implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba, the Union and its twenty-seven member states (ADPC), which is at a very advanced stage with concrete results in its various areas. During the meeting, the parties agreed to work on the development of a Roadmap that will contribute to the follow-up of the actions agreed in the political dialogues and the cooperation subcommittee already carried out in the current cycle.
Both parties also addressed the effects caused by the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba on the development of the Caribbean country's ties with the European Union and its member countries. The Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked the EU for its unanimous support for the United Nations Resolution calling for an end to this unilateral and unjust US policy against Cuba and the sustained position of the community bloc against Cuba remaining on the US list of states that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
The delegations also referred to the positive results in the area of cooperation and its prospects in the bilateral and regional sphere, as noted in the Subcommittee on Cooperation, which took place in May 2024.
During his stay in Havana, the senior official of the EEAS also held a courtesy meeting with the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, and met with representatives of other Cuban organizations.
The visit is a prelude to the holding of the Fourth Joint Committee between Cuba and the European Union, which is to be held in the coming months as part of the closing events of the fourth cycle of implementation of the ADPC.
