Namibia, May 21st, 2020- The newly appointed Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Hon. Jenelly Matundu, received the Ambassador of Cuba to Namibia, Sidenio Acosta.
Both diplomats agreed on the excellent condition of the bilateral relations, which they classified as historical and brotherhood.
Ambassador Acosta congratulated the Namibian leader on her recent appointment to the position. In addition, he updated the Deputy Minister Matundu on the hostile policy of the US government towards Cuba, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Caribbean nation.
Likewise, he reported on the incidence of the pandemic on the Island and the efforts of the Cuban government to combat COVID - 19.
The Cuban diplomat also expressed his willingness to continue the work to strengthen political and cooperation ties between their respective countries.
For her part, Deputy Minister Matundu thanked the congratulations and information provided by the Cuban Ambassador. She expressed her intention to continue the work of her predecessors for the bilateral relations.
She recognized the assistance provided by Cuba to her country, since the years of the liberation struggle. The African country's diplomat reaffirmed Namibia's solidarity with Cuba and her government's condemnation of the US blockade.
At the meeting, which took place in a climate of brotherhood, the Namibian Deputy Minister highlighted the historical role of Sam Nujoma and Fidel Castro as head of both nations.
Zaskia Mcnab, Desk Officer of Cuba in Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, and Aldo Fuentes, Third Secretary of the Cuban Embassy, also participated in the meeting.
