Deputy Minister of Justice addresses the High-Level Segment of the Sixty-Seventh Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs
Vienna, March 14, 2024. The Vice Minister of Justice of the Republic of Cuba, Pilar Varona Estrada, spoke today at the High-Level Segment of the Sixty-Seventh Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs.
During her speech, she defended the need to move forward in strengthening international cooperation to effectively address and confront the world drug problem, which far from diminishing, is deepening and worsening.
The Deputy Minister of Justice ratified that Cuba maintains a policy of "zero tolerance" to illicit drug trafficking and offers differentiated treatment to its consumption in the field of public health, which has allowed the achievement of a harmonious balance between prevention and confrontation.
Referring to the national strategy to confront and combat this scourge, Varona Estrada enumerated the different achievements of Cuba despite the country's economic situation. He also denounced the limitations imposed by the iron economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba and the inclusion of the country in unilateral and arbitrary lists such as the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.
In concluding her speech, the Deputy Minister of Justice reiterated Cuba's commitment and legitimate aspiration to achieve societies free of illicit drugs, a vital element for achieving sustainable development and the well-being of our peoples.
