Port of Spain – 13 January 2018 – With the presence of the Minister of Trade and Industry of Trinidad and Tobago, Paula Gopee Scoon, the Ambassador of Cuba, Guillermo Vazquez Moreno, and the executive board of the Airline Caribbean Airlines - the Caribbean Airlines flight BW 456 that will link the capitals of Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago was inaugurated at the Piarco International Airport. The official ceremony counted with the presence of businessmen and the press who will cover the return of the Trinidadian airline to the largest Antilles as well as more than a hundred tourists who decided to witness this historic moment.
In the inaugural ceremony, the CEO of Caribbean Airlines Garvin Madera, expressed the satisfaction of his company to include the island of Cuba as its 20th destination of its catalog and highlighted the potential of Cuba as a tourist attraction which ensures a stable flow of passengers between Cuba and countries such as Trinidad and Tobago, Granada, Barbados and Guyana. The Trinidadian CEO also recalled the possibilities of Cuba’s air connection with other regions of the planet, which represents an additional incentive for this new route.
The Caribbean Airlines flight which began today, would have a frequency of two weekly flights, Tuesday and Saturday, with a capacity of 154 seats. The authorities of both countries have expressed its positive vision with the development of this new route that must turn into not only an impulse on tourism but also in trade and investment between Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago.
The Ambassador of Cuba stressed to the local press that this step contributes to the common objective between Cuba and the CARICOM member countries to improve air and sea connectivity in the insular Caribbean, as a basis for knowledge and mutual cooperation, especially the development of multi-destination projects, as was endorsed at the recent Summit of Heads of State of CARICOM-Cuba in Antigua and Barbuda.
