The Embassy of Cuba celebrated the 63 anniversary of Giron Victory

”After the victory of Playa Girón, the people of America were a little freer”…Fidel Castro

Vientiane April 2024. The Embassy of Cuba in Vientiane held a friendly meeting on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the Playa Girón victory and the Lao New Year, chaired by Dr. Chaleune Yiapahoer, vice president of the Lao National Assembly, president of the Friendship Association and the Parliamentary Friendship Committee between Laos and Cuba

Ambassador Enna Viant praised the month of April for its commemorations and triumphs. In particular, the 63rd anniversary of the victory of the Battle of Playa Girón stood out. I quote the words of the historical leader Fidel Castro when he said at that time: “Those days in Girón were difficult, we knew that imperialism would not forgive the Revolution we were making.”

Last April 19, more than 6 decades of the overwhelming victory over the invading force that arrived at the Bay of Pigs in the early morning of April 17, 1961, with 1,500 men: equipped, trained and financed by the United States government, was commemorated. . For this reason, the historical leader of the Revolution said that after that victory, the people of America were freer.

The fight turned into a feat and the people “with weapons in their hands and at the price of their blood” fought for socialism. In less than 72 hours, imperialism had its first major military defeat in America, because we Cubans decided to be masters of our destiny and make dignity the bastion.

The Cuban diplomat highlighted the achievements of the immense work of the Revolution, which is a reference and alluded to the ironclad and intensified economic blockade, which the members of the United Nations Organization overwhelmingly reject, including the consistent position of support of the Government of Laos and other friends in the world. However, this assured that Cuba continues to advance, challenging the obstacles and sanctions that this cruel scourge imposes on the Cuban people and their development.

Finally, the celebration was highlighted in the year of the 65th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, the 49th anniversary of the independence of the Lao PDR and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.

Added to this is the celebration of the traditional Pi Mai Lao number 2567 and the wishes of health, a happy and successful new year to the Lao leaders and people, committed to the country's socioeconomic development agenda, and the construction of a prosperous and sustainable socialism.

The cordial and warm atmosphere was also shared with friends from different Lao organizations, ministries and institutions, as well as representatives of the Cuban collaboration in the Lao PDR.
