The Vice-President of the Republic and President of the Organization for Environmental Protection, Dr. Masume Ebtekar, chaired the official ceremony of planting the amity tree in the surrounding area of the emblematic Milad Tower, to contribute to preserve the Tehran’s environment.
The ceremony was attended by members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Persian nation and Cuba was represented by Ambassador Vladimir Gonzalez Quesada, who was accompanied by the Counselor in charge of Consular Affairs, Rebeca Fernandez Nuñez.
In her speech for the occasion, Dr. Ebtekar underlined the importance of forming higher awareness about the need to protect the environment as a way to guarantee our own existence as human beings, particularly for future generations.
The vice-president of the Iranian government was in charge of planting the first tree, which was dedicated to the memory of the outstanding film director Abbas Kiarostami, who died in July 2016 and was one of the main defenders of the environment, through his valuable support for the initiative to organize Iran International Green Film Festival in favor of the environmental cause.
Subsequently the diplomats in attendance proceeded to plant trees in the name of their respective countries and Ambassador Vladimir Gonzalez planted the stance of a tree identified with the Cuban flag.
