Embassy of Cuba in Ethiopia celebrates Africa Day

Addis Ababa, May 23, 2024.- The Embassy of Cuba in Ethiopia celebrated "Africa Day" together with the African diplomatic corps, Latin embassies, directors of the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry and the African Union.

During the opening remarks, the Ambassador to the African Union, Lourdes A. Marrero Oro, thanked those present for their permanent support to Cuba in its fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States and the call made during the 37th AU Summit to exclude Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

For his part, the ambassador of the diplomatic mission, Jorge F. Lefebre Nicolás, exalted Cuba's pride in being heirs to the continent that is considered the cradle of humanity and said: "Africa Day is a date to express our sincere friendship and fraternity with the African peoples, all brothers, to whom we are united by ties of blood, culture and history. We consider ourselves an African country located on another continent."

The event was attended by the African and Latin American diplomatic corps accredited in Addis Ababa, Professor Mohammed Belhocine, Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of the African Union and Ambassador Zenebe Kebede, Director General of the Americas and Europe of the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry.
