CUBA, February 11, 2017 .- Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power, received George J. Furey, president of the Senate of Canada, on Saturday morning. Mr. Furey is in Cuba to attend the International Book Fair, in which Canada is the guest country.
Lazo Hernández gave the visitor a panoramic view on the economic and social reality of Cuba in the current circumstances, as well as the foundations, structure and functions of People's Power. He also recognized Canada's traditional position of rejection of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island.
The visitor thanked his host for having received him at the Capitol, which had become the seat of the Cuban legislature. He explained the bicameral feature of the Canadian Parliament and also expressed to keep abreast of the current programs of Cuba to develop and diversify its economy.

For the Cuban side also participated Ana María Mari Machado, vice president of the National Assembly, Yolanda Ferrer Gómez and Agustín Lage Dávila, who head respectively the International Relations Commission and the Cuba-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group.
