On November 10, in Freedom Park, a place that remembers Cubans fallen in the struggle for the liberation of Africa, took place the First National Meeting of the Association of Former South African Students in Cuba. The Association has as members hundreds of graduates in different specialties in our country, most of them doctors.
In the meeting, the Statutes that will govern the Association were adopted. Among its basic objectives are solidarity with the Cuban Revolution, as well as the strengthening of historic ties of friendship between Cuba and South Africa. Likewise, the Association will work to become actively involved in the process of insertion in South Africa of the new students who graduate in Cuba, especially in the health sector, as this is where a greater number of students graduate.
At the meeting an Executive Committee was elected, which will lead the Association for a period of 4 years, under the leadership of its President, Dr. Kewalkile Desmond.
The participants thanked the message conveyed by the Friends of Cuba in South Africa Society (FOCUS) and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) in which the historical links between the two peoples united by bonds of brotherhood forged in the struggle for independence, were remembered.
