Members of the publishing house of the Canadian Communist Party´s official newspaper, People's Voice, held a forum at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto entitled "The struggle against the blockade on Cuba in present times", in which the history, evolution and impact of the U.S. blockade on the Cuban people and the worldwide struggle for its lifting were analyzed.
Samantha Hislop, co-chair of the Canadian Network on Cuba; Julio Fonseca, president of the Juan Gualberto Gómez Association of Cuban Residents in Toronto, and Jorge Yanier Castellanos Orta, Consul General in Toronto, participated as speakers.
The event reaffirmed the inhumane and hostile nature of U.S. policy toward Cuba, the struggle and resilience of the Cuban people, the international support for Cuba at the United Nations and the role played by the solidarity movements.
The Cuban diplomat offered a broad overview on the impact of the blockade on the life of the Cuban people, mainly during the world economic crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, and the actions carried out by the Cuban government to face and overcome the challenges imposed on us. He also condemned the inclusion of our country in the unilateral list of state sponsors of terrorism.
In addition, the broad support of the Cuban community living abroad and their commitment to the homeland, as demonstrated during the fourth Conference on "the Nation and Emigration", was also acknowledged.
