Port of Spain, October 18 .- Sponsored by the Institute of International Relations of the University "West Indies" of Trinidad and Tobago and the Embassy of Cuba, was held a discussion forum entitled " The Economic, Commercial and Financial Embargo of US against Cuba ". The programme of the event included remarks by the Ambassador of Cuba in Trinidad and Tobago, H.E. Guillermo Vázquez Moreno and Dr. Jacqueline Martinez LaGuardia, as well as a session dedicated to questions and answers.
The forum was presented by the prominent professor Dr. Raymond Mark Kirton.
The current and interesting topic attracted the attention of dozens of academics, students, representatives of social organizations, diplomatic corps, and mainstream media in Trinidad and Tobago.
The speakers were able to provide a full summary of the political context in which will take place the debate of the 69th UN General Assembly, dedicated to the Cuban resolution "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba ", scheduled for October 27.
Interventions served to illustrate why it is stated that the policies of blockade are the biggest obstacle to the development of Cuba. The panelists presented details on the legal basis that supports the policy of blockade against Cuba and the faculties of the US Congress and President Obama to pierce and eventually achieve the definitive lifting of the blockade.
The session of questions and exchange with the audience demonstrated the interest in this matter in Trinidad and Tobago, especially how this issue might evolve and its implications for Cuba's relations with the region.
The Ambassador took the opportunity to recognize the role of international solidarity in this fight and urged those present to continue to denounce this policy until the full lifting of the Embargo.
