Kuala Lumpur, November 5- The Association of Friendship with Cuba in Malaysia issued a statement condemning the blockade, after hearing the report on the effects of this unjust policy towards the island for almost six decades.
The document highlights the inhumane nature of the blockade in the midst of the covid 19 pandemic, which has prevented and hampered access to essential materials to control the virus and the effort made by the Cuban government to guarantee the health of the people.
“The scourge of the COVID-19 pandemic has posed significant challenges for Cuba and the country's efforts to combat it have been significantly limited by the regulations of the US blockade, where the US government has used the blockade, especially its extraterritorial component, to deliberately deprive the Cuban people of necessary products. "
It states that “even before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world in early 2020, the blockade has greatly restricted not only trade, financial transactions, and people-to-people interactions between Cuba and the US, but also between Cuba and other countries, including Malaysia, which constitutes a violation of our own rights and freedoms as an independent people and nation
The Association of Friends of Cuba in Malaysia thus urges the United States government to end this blockade, a relic of the Cold War that ended 29 years, and calls for normalizing relations with Cuba and interacting in a peaceful, friendly and mutually beneficial.
