Vienna, 29 April- Austria's voice of solidarity against the blockade of Cuba was heard this weekend in the city of Linz as part of the activities carried out by the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association (ÖKG).
The activity entitled ‘Stop the Blockade’ took place as part of the celebrations that the Regional Group of the ÖKG in Lower Austria organises annually for the anniversary of the victory of Playa Girón and which this year was dedicated to the struggle of the Cuban people against the blockade.
At the event, a video summary of the trip to Cuba of the members of the Regional Group was shown and a message sent by Ambassador Pablo Berti Oliva was read out, in which he encouraged them to continue their solidarity work and denounced the effects of the illegal blockade policy against the island.
The central words were given by the friend of solidarity Michael Wögerer, President of the Curatorium of the ÖKG, who highlighted the achievements of the Cuban Revolution and the trust placed by President Miguel Díaz Canel in the youth as responsible for continuing the road travelled in these years of Revolution.
Hermann Pernerstorfer, President of the Friendship Association, explained the origins of the blockade and its continuation. He stressed that the objective of asphyxiating the Cuban people and destroying their Revolution is still in place, while denouncing the inclusion of Cuba on the illegal list of State sponsors of terrorism with serious consequences for the country.
The demand for the elimination of the blockade against Cuba has been a guiding principle of the work of the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association since its foundation.
