The G77 and China Summit will allow progress towards a united approach of the countries of the South to face the challenges of a multidimensional international crisis, a diplomatic source said today.
Cuba's ambassador to the Asian giant, Alberto Blanco, also stressed that in the midst of the diversity brought by 134 member states, the group can reach a consensus where cooperation, solidarity, inclusion and shared future are values that unite them.
"The Cuban presidency of the Group of 77 and China hopes that the Summit will contribute to strengthen the group's voice in the current international situation and in the face of relevant intergovernmental negotiation processes," he added.
He also reiterated the commitment to the historic demands of the G77, particularly in relation to the new international economic order, the reform of the world financial architecture, the rejection of unilateral coercive measures, situations of concentration of wealth or increasing poverty, as well as the growing weight of foreign debt.
Mr. Blanco urged to identify points of convergence and initiatives that contribute to complementarity among the countries of the South and highlighted the role of China as a factor of stability and balance for the world.
The ambassador highlighted Beijing's contribution to the development of these nations, without political conditioning or interference in internal affairs.
On the other hand, he denounced the abuse of economic coercion measures, cultural and political intolerance by the United States and other Western nations.
"The G77 countries have not yet recovered from the dramatic impact of Covid-19, but in the face of an unjust international economic order, we do not abandon the opportunity for inclusive and sustainable development in which South-South cooperation plays a decisive role," he emphasized.
He confirmed that during the Summit in Havana, scheduled for the 15th and 16th of this month, the adoption of a Political Declaration is foreseen, which will also focus on practical actions.
The heads of state and other representatives of the group will meet this time under the theme "Current Development Challenges: Role of Science, Technology and Innovation".
The member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Li Xi, will chair the Asian giant's delegation to the Summit.
The also head of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Central Committee of the aforementioned political organization will also make a bilateral visit during his stay in Havana.
According to Blanco, China is a member of relevance for its valuable experiences in science, technology and innovation for sustainable development and for its weight as one of the world's leading economies.
