G77+China Summit concludes in Havana, Cuba

La Havana, 16 september, 2023._  The G77+China Summit concluded on Saturday in Havana, capital of Cuba, after two days of work, in which heads of state and government or government representatives of the member countries discussed the current challenges imposed by science, technology and innovation for development.

In his closing remarks, the Cuban Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, thanked on behalf of the Cuban people and government for the expressions of rejection of the U.S. blockade against the island, as well as the solidarity and support for Cuba.

Previously, the delegations had given their consent to adopt the political declaration of the Summit of the Group of 77 plus China, with 47 topics, as a result of a transparent and inclusive intergovernmental negotiation process.

The text highlights the challenges generated by the current international economic order and warns of the need to reform the global financial structure from a more inclusive and coordinated approach.
In the declaration, member countries recognize that technologies are key catalysts for facilitating sustainable development, and reaffirm the need to build an inclusive information society, with people and development at its core.

At the same time, the text emphasizes the consensus on investing more in science, technology and innovation and promoting initiatives to develop human resources, as well as implementing plans to address the brain drain that has formed in the countries of the global South.

The declaration also rejects the imposition of extraterritorial laws and regulations, as well as all forms of coercive economic measures, including unilateral sanctions against developing countries, and urges their elimination as a matter of urgency.

The recently concluded Summit was attended by more than 1,300 participants from 116 nations and 12 organizations and agencies of the United Nations (UN) system.
The great event in Havana was attended by 31 heads of state and government, 12 vice-presidents and other high-level government representatives.
