Gianni Mina´s Documentary on Fidel Castro Exhibited in Toronto

Ottawa 9, September- Gianni´s Mina´s documentary “Pope Francis, Cuba and Fidel”,  sponsored by the Toronto International Film Festival, was screened last September 8 as part of the Italian Contemporary Film Festival held in Toronto.

Gianni Mina, renowned film producer, journalist and TV host, attended the documentary´s premiere along with other members of his production staff. Officials from the Diplomatic and Consular Mission of Cuba in Canada, Italian diplomats as well as several media representatives were present at the film event.

Gianni Mina ―who has also studied in depth the lives of outstanding figures like Che Guevara, Rigoberta Menchú, Diego Armando Maradona, among other international well-known personalities― said this film is the result of several months of research conducted together with Cuban producer Roberto Chile.

Deborah Ojeda, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Cuba, emphasized the fact that it was a privilege to enjoy a piece of work of this nature, produced by such a prominent artist in whose work he tackles world concerns, particularly, the hopes, dreams and frustrations of Latin-America.

“Pope Francis…”has a great testimonial value since it includes some interviews with Vatican officials and personalities very close to Fidel Castro, namely, Silvio Rodríguez and Frei Betto, and the Historical Leader of the Revolution himself. The Havana International Latin-American Film Festival will exhibit the documentary next December.
