On September 30,Terrence Deyalsingh, Minister of Health, met with Guillermo Vazquez Moreno,Ambassador from Cuba, and his team at the Ministry of Health’s Head Office, Port of Spain.
The discussion centred around the provision of healthcare services and expertise to Trinidad and Tobago by the Cuban government, including:
Recruitment of healthcare professionals from Cuba; Renewal of the existing bilateral agreement between the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Republic Cuba; Provision of specialised services (specialised medical teams) from Cuba to reduce wait-time for specific surgeries and to allow for the enhancement of primary health care; Provision of Cuban pharmaceuticals; and ^ Provision of specialty training for local public health professionals.
The Ministry of Health has collaborated with the Cuban government for the recruitment of medical professionals since 2003. The ministry said it was committed to exploring all avenues to bring timely and quality healthcare to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
