Port of Spain, November 23, 2024. This afternoon, the Cuban Embassy commemorated the 8th anniversary of the passing of the Historical Leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.
The event was attended by the ambassadors of Mexico, H.E. Mr. Víctor Hugo Morales, and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, H.E. Mr. Álvaro Sánchez Cordero, as well as the Cuban ambassador, Gustavo Véliz Olivares, who highlighted the enduring relevance of the life and work of the Commander in Chief. During the gathering, the video “Biography of Fidel Castro” was screened.
Ricardo Sánchez Niño and Belkis Henríquez Márquez, Venezuelan diplomats accredited in Trinidad and Tobago, shared their experiences and impressions of Fidel and Chávez, drawing on their time in Cuba as Social Work students. Meanwhile, Isis Matos Pérez, a nurse currently working as a collaborator at the St. James Oncology Hospital in Port of Spain, recited the poem "Listen, Cuban," and Gladys Fernández, a Cuban resident in the country, spoke about the impressions Fidel made on various global figures.
The Cuban Ambassador provided a summary of Fidel’s relations with the Caribbean, particularly with Trinidad and Tobago.
Dr. Orlando Díaz Gómez, representing the Cuban medical brigade working in the Caribbean nation, along with other Cuban graduates and embassy officials, also participated in the ceremony.
