Homage is paid to Martí in Austria on the occasion of the 171st anniversary of his birth.

Vienna, January 26. The Cuban Embassy in Austria, together with the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association "ÖKG", ambassadors and other representatives of the Latin American diplomatic corps accredited in Vienna, paid tribute to the National Hero of Cuba, José Martí Pérez, on the occasion of the 171st anniversary of his birth.

Pablo Berti Oliva, Cuban Ambassador to Austria and Hermann Pernerstorfer, President of the ÖKG, placed an offering of white roses in front of the bust of José Martí that stands in the emblematic promenade of the Latin American Heroes, inside the Danube Park in Vienna.

The Ambassador highlighted the importance of José Martí's legacy in the present times, in which we maintain the deep conviction to move forward as standard bearers of the strength of the truth and the ideas represented by the Apostle.

The bust of José Martí, a life-size bronze work by the renowned Cuban artist Alberto Lezcay, was unveiled on May 19, 2004, as a result of a joint effort between the ÖKG, the Cuban Ministry of Culture and the Mayor's Office of Vienna.
