IAEA Director General received the Cuban delegation to ICONS 2024

Vienna, May 23. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, received the Cuban delegation participating in the International Conference on Nuclear Security (ICONS 2024).

During the exchange, Colonel Ariel Martos Rodríguez, Head of the Protection Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) and of the Cuban delegation to the event, handed over to the IAEA Director a letter sent by the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Cuba, Major General Lázaro Álvarez Casas.

As part of the meeting's agenda, the Cuban delegation updated the high-ranking international official on Cuba's progress in nuclear security during the last four years, as well as on the projects undertaken by the country in this field. They also conveyed to the Director General their support and backing for his work at the head of the IAEA.

The Director General reiterated the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency to Cuba and the willingness to continue cooperating with the country on issues of mutual benefit for both parties.

ICONS 2024 is defined by the IAEA as the most important event to discuss the challenges of Nuclear Security and the need to establish an effective framework for international cooperation.
