The Cuban Ambassador to Egypt, Tania Aguiar Fernández, offered an interview to Sada El Balad News where she talked about current issues for Cuba and the world, such as the sanctions imposed by the US government on the Island and the important medical aid Cuba provides to more than twenty countries amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
"Cuba is a country located near the center of a geopolitical tension and has suffered for many years from the brutal sanctions of the American capitalism, however, the negative effects of these sanctions did not prevent Havana from fulfilling its humanitarian duty to the world even in the more difficult circumstances.”
The Ambassador expressed that the philosophy of Cuba is very clear, adding that saving lives with doctors is the opposite option to kill people with bombs.
"If the resources invested in killing people were invested in health, there would already be a universal solution against many diseases and also this pandemic would have been better controlled."
The Cuban diplomat also added that Cuba has offered medical services to more than 300 million people worldwide, including two million surgical interventions and the vaccination of nine million children, according to the Cuban Ministry of Public Health.
"Since the first Cuban medical brigade with an internationalist mission to Algeria in 1963, almost a quarter of a million Cuban health professionals have offered their collaboration to other nations," she said.
"Now, with the coronavirus, we are talking about the continuity of such cooperation."
