Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba expresses deep concern over the unfolding events in the Middle East, driven by the aggressive policies of the State of Israel, with military, logistical, and political support from the U.S. government. These actions have led to a dangerous escalation, further undermining regional stability and security, and provoking a response from Iran.
Nearly a year after the brutal genocide carried out by the Zionist government against the Palestinian people, and in a blatant display of disregard for the principles enshrined in the UN Charter, the Israeli government, instead of pursuing a negotiated solution to secure a ceasefire, has escalated and intensified its irresponsible aggression against Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba has consistently warned of the risk of further escalation in the Middle East as a result of these actions and the aggression and impunity with which Israel acts.
Cuba, while expressing its solidarity with the nations targeted by Israel, calls for peace and urges immediate negotiations toward a ceasefire to prevent a further escalation of a conflict that has already claimed tens of thousands of lives and severely worsened the humanitarian crisis to alarming levels in the region's populations.
We reaffirm our commitment to justice and international law. We reiterate that peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through a comprehensive, lasting, and just solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state within the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. In addition, the full and immediate admission of Palestine as a member of the United Nations must be guaranteed without further delay.
