Port of Spain, July 14, 2023. The José Martí National Library and the National Library and Information System of Trinidad and Tobago (NALIS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the afternoon of July 13, which will foster the development of cultural exchanges between these prestigious institutions thus contributing to mutual understanding between the peoples of Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago. Ms. Paula Greene, Executive Director of NALIS and the Cuban Ambassador, Tania Diego Olite, representing the José Martí National Library, signed the aforementioned instrument.
The President of NALIS, Neil Parsanlal, stated that this action promotes cultural and intellectual exchange between the two countries. The Ambassador of Cuba, Tania Diego Olite, highlighted the framework offered by this MoU to expand collaboration and as the first action to be developed is the donation of books for the NALIS Spanish collection that the José Martí National Library will carry out in the coming days , among which is included the Poetic Work of Nicolás Guillen. The directors of the José Martí National Library, led by its Director General, Omar Valiños Cedres, participated virtually in the ceremony.
