The José Martí Technical School celebrates a central act on the birth of the Apostle in Jamaica

The José Martí Technical School hosted the celebration in Jamaica on the 169th anniversary of the birth of our National Hero, in an event that was attended by the Ambassador of Cuba Fermín Quiñones, the coordinators of the Medical and Education brigades and the president of the Association of Cuban Residents on the island.

Spanish Town, Jamaica, 28 January 2022. The José Martí Technical School hosted the celebration in Jamaica on the 169th anniversary of the birth of our National Hero, in an event that was attended by the Ambassador of Cuba Fermín Quiñones, the coordinators of the Medical and Education brigades and the president of the Association of Cuban Residents on the island.

Located in Spanish Town, Saint Catherine, the center for technical studies was a gift given by the people and government of Cuba to the people and government of Jamaica 45 years ago.

This January 28, the ceremony was held in a hybrid way and with a reduced audience, to comply with the limitations imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. As the first official act, students of the school raised the Cuban flag in the courtyard of the facility. It was a bilingual event where teachers and students had the opportunity to display their skills in the Spanish language.

Speaking on behalf of the Cuban State Mission, Ambassador Quiñones highlighted the qualities of José Martí as a revolutionary leader, teacher of generations and defender of the most advanced ideas and values ​​of his time. The diplomat added that the school that bears the name of the Apostle represents a historical and symbolic milestone of the friendship between Jamaica and Cuba, and in these four and a half decades since its fundation it has provided thousands of students with tools to forge themselves as good men and women.

Concluding the ceremony, visitors paid tribute to José Martí before the bust that honors his memory; toured the school facilities; and spend time with students, professors and directors.
