With a patriotic and colorful political-cultural activity at the headquarters of the Cuban Embassy in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the day of Cuban national culture was celebrated and the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the wars of independence was commemorated.
In her speech, Cuban Ambassador Vilma Reyes Valdespino, referred to the historical context, in which this ephemerid, so special for the nation, takes its origin and stressed that culture, rebellion and independence are the basis of Cuban identity.
The diplomat referred to the role of culture throughout the Cuban revolutionary process in the reaffirmation of identity, memory and national heritage. She recalled that, even in the most difficult moments of the special period, when everything seemed in danger, emerged Fidel's visionary call about the need of saving the culture, as a sword and shield of the nation.
In speaking, the Ambassador of Venezuela in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Francisco Pérez Santana, reaffirmed the strength and transcendence of solidarity between Cuba and Venezuela, the common roots of the culture and history of both nations and the unbreakable ties of friendship between the two countries.
During the activity, the Association of Cuban residents, the Friendship Association of St. Vincent and the Grenadines-Cuba and the Cuban collaborators, issued three strong statements of support for the Revolution, the new Constitution project, as well as rejection of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US against Cuba. The declarations also demanded the return of the territory, which illegally occupies the Guantanamo Naval Base.
In the framework of the activity, a tribute was paid to Fidel, on the 65th anniversary of the "History will absolve me" plea, to Che, to Camilo and to the victims of State terrorism.
The cultural evening brimmed with inspiration and talent. The children Michel Enrique Israel and Mathew Ernesto Ralph Israel, the speaker Neuricel Fonseca Sánchez, the violinist Samuel Toka and the vocalist Alfredo Percy Ballart plunged the large audience into emotion and joy.
An exhibition of works by Wilfredo Lam, René Portocarrero, Elio Villate, among other Cuban painters, was part of the program of the cultural evening.
