June 29, Thessaloniki, At the premises of the Antiracist Festival in Thessaloniki, Panhellenic Antiwar Movement Coordination (PAKS /ΠΑΚΣ - http://antipolemikos.gr ) organized a debate titled “Latin America says no to imperialism”.
The main interventions were by Alekos Chalvatzis member of “Jose Marti” Cultural Association – Solidarity with Cuba (“JM”CA) and Greek Solidarity Committee “Todos Somos Venezuela” (ToSoVe) and Elsa Varelidou member of PAKS and participant in the recent 1st of May International Solidarity Brigade in Cuba - 2019. They both gave information about the increasing aggression by USA and EU imperialism against Cuba, Venezuela and Latin America in general but also about the important resistances of the Latin American peoples. There was also an intervention from an ex-Santinista fighter and many questions and opinions by other people from the public. Also a 10 minute video-report from the 1st of May Brigade in Cuba was screened.
There was a strong interest -especially about Cuba- and the discussion kept going for more than two hours. After, the discussion continued informally afterwards in small groups and there was a general consent that more events of the kind should be organized in Thessaloniki immediately after the summer. While many people gave their contact information in order to receive updates by “JM”CA and ToSoVe.
