Monrovia, April 4, 2020 - This morning, the "Liberia-Cuba Friendship Group" sent to our embassy in Monrovia the official statement of this organization regarding the situation facing our country in its fight against the global pandemic COVID-19.
In this document, signed by the president of this group, Mr. Kesselee K. Kanneh, the members of his organization point out that in these difficult moments that humanity is going through, faced with a pandemic of global proportions, which threatens the life and economic and social well-being of all countries in the world, he wants to express his total and widest support for the policy of solidarity and cooperation of Cuba and its partners in the health sector in this struggle.
They indicate that despite the cruel and prolonged US blockade that for almost 60 years has imposed limitations on it, that small Caribbean island has been able to demonstrate its commitment to international solidarity by sending its doctors to combat this terrible epidemic in many affected countries.
They consider as a genocidal act the fact that the US blockade has prevented the sending of donations from China to Cuba to face the COVID-19, making it difficult to receive international aid knowing that Cuba does not have access to the necessary resources to face this pandemic, which affects not only Cuba but all the countries of the world because this is a moment of unity, of solidarity among all the countries of the world.
The document was received by the head of that diplomatic mission, Mercedes L. Martínez Herrera, who thanked the members of that group for their solidarity.
