Monrovia, March 24, 2020 - In an article published by the Liberian newspaper FRONT PAGE entitled "Medical Diplomacy to Meet Global Health Challenges: A Case Study of COVID 19", the author refers to Cuba's medical diplomacy over all these years and points to it as an example to follow.
It goes back to the times of Hurricane Katrina, when our country did not hesitate to provide aid to the American people, to the statement by the Commander in Chief when he expressed that Cuba could not remain indifferent to that event and points out that from the Commander's speech, on that occasion, it could be deciphered that medical diplomacy can be urgently needed and strictly necessary when there is a global or regional threat such as Ebola and Covid19. He also adds that even though the medical assistance envisaged by the Cubans was not accepted by the United States, it set a great precedent for the usefulness and use of medical diplomacy, even between the two political rivals.
The author further addresses the issue of Cuba's medical assistance to Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea when Ebola hit the West African region in 2014.
