Monrovia, May 25, 2020 - With the title "From Revolution and War to Serving Humanity", the Liberian newspaper "Daily Observer" published an interview granted by the Chargé d'Affaires of the Cuban Embassy in Liberia, Mercedes L. Martínez Herrera, on the occasion of the celebration of "Africa Day".
The Head of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission explains in her interview that the fraternal ties with Africa are an essential part of our history, which goes back to the formation of the Cuban nationality, marked by the African imprint, culture, rhythm and traditions, which arrived in our country, together with the blacks brought to Cuba during the time of the slave trade.
She recalled that Cuban combatants, health workers, teachers, sports coaches and other specialists from the most diverse fields have carried out missions in African nations, and have done so honoring an elemental duty of solidarity and internationalism with our brothers, thus establishing part of our historical debt to Africa.
She also recognized that the year that has passed since the last celebration of Africa Day has been characterized by dynamism in bilateral relations with the nations of the African continent and progress towards the deepening and consolidation of political-diplomatic and cooperation ties between Cuba and the countries of the continent.
She also thanked the unanimous support of the governments, leaders and peoples of Africa for the fight against the US blockade imposed on Cuba, including the vote in favour of the elimination of that policy within the African Union and the United Nations General Assembly.
