Meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Cuba and Nigeria Strengthens Bilateral Cooperation

Abuja, March 17, 2025 – Within the framework of the official visit to Nigeria, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla met with his Nigerian counterpart, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar. During the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to expanding international cooperation and mutual support.

As a result of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Foreign Ministries of both countries, with the aim of strengthening international exchange, cooperation, and collaboration.

The Cuban Foreign Minister took the opportunity to thank the Nigerian government for its support of the Cuban people's struggle to eliminate the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States, as well as for its support for the island's removal from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. This support has been expressed at both the United Nations and the African Union, reflecting Nigeria's commitment to justice and respect for the sovereignty of its peoples.

During the exchange, the deep historical and cultural ties that unite both nations were highlighted, cemented by a rich common heritage and years of mutual cooperation. Likewise, the positive state of bilateral political relations and the shared interest in expanding and diversifying ties in the economic, trade, and cooperation spheres were emphasized.

The Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs was accompanied by the Director of Regions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Janet Olisa, the Director of America and the Caribbean, Ambassador Okoko, as well as other executives and officials of the institution.

The meeting reaffirmed the will of both countries to continue consolidating their relationship, based on respect, solidarity, and mutual interest in promoting the development and well-being of their peoples.
