Meeting of the Greek Foreign Affairs Minister and GRULAC in Cuban Embassy in Athens

Athens, May 21. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic George Katrougkalos, held meeting with the Group of ambassadors from Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) accredited in Greece (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela) in the headquarters of the Embassy of Cuba in Athens. The Ambassador of Panama Cristina Liakòpulos de Papadikis, Dean of the GRULAC, welcomed and gave way to the Counselor of the Embassy of Cuba José Oriol Marrero Martínez, who explained the book he is doing on Marti and Greece, from which he prepared an exhibition with photos, taken by the own counselor, on places of Greece which Martì spoke, along with Marti`s texts in Spanish and Greek selected carefully, will make up the exhibition which opens on June 6 in the Francisco Miranda Gallery in the Embassy of Venezuela in Athens. Also commented on the ties between Cuba and Greece, the friendship and historic ties, as well as the increase of the Greek tourism to the Caribbean island. Then, Ambassador of Cuba Zelmys Maria Dominguez Cortina, gave the Minister a picture with one of the photos taken by the Counsellor, which will be part of the exhibition, and it is the Cuban flag waving on Mount Olympus, which the own counselor take with him to that mythical Greek mountain Greek, being the first Cuban to climb and that also took with him for the first time the Cuban Lone Star flag to that mountain. Copy of the photo was given to Ambassadors present. The minister Katrougkalos thanked and showed interest in promoting awareness of the work of Martí in the curriculum of Greek students, especially starting from known, thanks to the provided explanation, that the national hero of Cuba wrote widely upon different aspects of Greece. The minister has also given an excellent dissertation on the relationship between Greece and Latin America, the common values and the interests of Greece to develop linkages with the region which highly valued and that he nearly visit all Latin-American countries. He also referred broadly to the internal situation in his country and the challenges in foreign policy. Then he answered several questions from ambassadors in an interesting debate. At the end, the Dean of the Group gave him a present on behalf of all and thanked for the excellent talk in a friendly atmosphere that shows the links existing between Greek and Latin American peoples.
