Meeting with the Mayor of Nijmegen

Nijmegen, June 3, 2024. At the headquarters of the Mayor's Office of Nijmegen, a municipality belonging to the Gerdeland province, in the east of the Netherlands, the Cuban ambassador Anet Pino Rivero was received by the Mayor of the city, Mr. Hubert Bruls.

They held a cordial meeting that allowed them to review the history of the city, which dates back more than 2,000 years, the oldest in the Netherlands; the main economic and social sectors, highlighting education, health and the technology industry sectors. It was emphasized that the city of Nijmegen has been a university city since the arrival of the Catholic University in 1923 (since 2004 also known as Radboud University).

The Cuban ambassador highlighted the health and education sectors are also priorities in Cuba and mentioned the willingness to promote cooperation ties in these areas. She also offered an explanation about the current situation in Cuba and the effects caused by the blockade imposed by the United States government, for more than 60 years, on the Cuban population.

Hubert Bruls has been mayor of Nijmegen since May 21, 2012. He is responsible for public order and security, civil services and affairs, foreign relations, legal affairs, communications, research and statistics.
