Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand welcomes the Ambassador of Cuba

BANGKOK, September 1, 2017.- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, H.E. Don Pramudwinai, welcomed today the Ambassador of Cuba, Héctor Conde Almeida.

In the cordial meeting the good path of bilateral relations was confirmed and the mutual will to continue strengthening them was reiterated, with special mention to the historical significance of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries to be celebrated in May 2018.

The Cuban Ambassador thanked the Chancellor, the government and people of Thailand for their support to the United Nations Resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba.

The exchange highlighted the results of the first inter-ministerial meeting held in Havana in April 2016, as well as the advances and potential of bilateral cooperation in key sectors by promoting South-South cooperation and compliance with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining close cooperation in various multilateral forums and reaffirmed support for the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, adopted in December 2015; as well as to the work of the UN in the field of nuclear disarmament, especially the Treaty for its ban adopted on 7/7/2017. The validity of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, adopted by the Second CELAC Summit in 2014, and the importance of FEALAC as a forum for promoting bi-regional cooperation were discussed.

The Ambassador of Cuba conveyed congratulations on the enactment, on April 6th, 2017, of the Constitution no. 20 of Thailand since the transformation in 1932 of the absolute Monarchy in constitutional Monarchy.
