Georgetown, April 2, 2018. The Minister of Health of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Hon. Mrs. Volda Lawrence, participated in the farewell to a group of 13 Cuban health workers who completed their three-year mission in Guyanese lands. The ceremony was also attended by the Ambassador of Cuba, Narciso Reinaldo Amador Socorro, the Councelor Ana Violeta Castañeda Marrero and several members of the Cuban Medical Brigade.
The Minister congratulated the Cuban collaborators for the work done, wished them a happy return to their country and highlighted the importance of Cuban medical cooperation for the Guyanese health system, both in the provision of services and in the training of qualified personnel in the various medical specialties
The Cuban Ambassador thanked the Minister for his presence at the farewell ceremony and the support given by the Guyanese authorities to the work of the Cuban Medical Brigade. He also congratulated the collaborators, wished them to happy return and stressed that they return to their homeland with pride and the satisfaction of having fulfilled their duties.
The diplomat recalled that the medical collaboration of Cuba in Guyana began in 1976, 42 years ago and since then more than 3 500 professionals have fulfilled collaborative mission in Guyana and expressed the commitment of his country to continue providing medical assistance to the Guyanese people and contributing to the training of qualified personnel in the area of health.
Currently the Medical Brigade of Cuba in Guyana is composed of 196 collaborators who provide their services in eight of the ten regions of the country.
