Monrovia, May 28, 2018-, The Minister of Health of Liberia, Dr. Wilhemina Jallah, received in her office the Chargé d'Affaires of Cuba, Second Secretary Yordenis Despaigne Vera. The second Secretary of the Cuban diplomatic mission, Carmen Maury Toledo, also participated in the courtesy visit.
During the meeting, the head of the Cuban diplomatic mission conveyed a congratulatory message to the new official, on behalf of her Cuban counterpart, for her recent appointment as head of the Health portfolio. Among the topics exchanged, the Antillean diplomat made reference to the Liberian students who are currently in Cuba studying medicine for free. He also recalled the joint work of Cuban doctors and Liberian health personnel in the fight against Ebola in 2014 and ratified the Caribbean government's willingness to contribute to the recovery process of the health sector in Liberia.
For her part, Jallah highlighted as valuable the recent declarations of Cuba in Geneva, in the framework of the LXXI General Assembly of WHO. She also acknowledged Cuba's important contribution to the education and training of young Africans, particularly Liberians, in the health sector. Finally, she mentioned areas such as the fight against malaria and maternal and child health, among others, as aspects where she hopes Cuba may contribute to improving the quality of life of the Liberian people.
Prior to her current appointment, Dr. Wilhemina Jallah, a specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics, served as director of her private clinic Hope for Women International Incorporated. (CubaMinrex / EmbaCuba Liberia)
