Monrovia, October 20, 2020 - This afternoon, the Head of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission in Liberia, Mercedes L. Martínez Herrera, paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism of the Republic of Liberia, Hon. Ledgerhood J. Rennie.
During the meeting, which was arranged as a celebration of the "Day of Cuban Culture", one of the topics that prevailed was Cuban culture, its origin and determining role of the Cuban revolution in cultural development.
The Cuban diplomat highlighted the transcendental importance of this date for the Cuban people, alleging that aboriginal, Spanish and African blood runs through the veins of Cubans, being heirs of that tradition of struggle that allowed to shake all the yokes and to undertake the difficult libertarian path that we continue to walk today.
She added that October 20th is one of the most emblematic dates for the heroic people of Cuba, celebrating the birth of a great nation of free men and women who have known how to fight for their national culture, for their identity, and that the island is the cradle of characters who have become important references for the world.
For his part, the Liberian minister referred to the similarity of Liberian and Cuban craftsmanship and his preference for the traditional Cuban music.
They exchanged on the situation of Cuba in times of pandemic, the effect of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States and its effect on the cultural sector.
The occasion was propitious to deliver to the Liberian Minister crafts and music of the Caribbean country in greeting to the Day of the Cuban Culture, which will serve as a bridge to continue enriching a fraternal relationship between two peoples with the will to develop strong cultural ties.
Today's meeting was a significant step towards strengthening cultural relations between the two nations.
