Wellington, 13 April 2016.-In a meeting held this morning at the Beehive, the Minister for Local Government, Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, expressed to the Ambassador of Cuba, Mario Alzugaray, his appreciation for Cuba´s cooperation projects with the Pacific Islands. Also in charge of the ministries of the Pacific People and Ethnic Communities, Lotu-Iiga confirmed he was aware of the experience of some Pacific Islands young fellows, who graduated from medical careers in Cuba and the valuable contribution made to raise the standard of health services in their countries.
The Cuban diplomat took advantage of this opportunity to brief Hon. Lotu-Iiga about the current situation in Cuba and the fields with the greatest potential for the development of bilateral ties, stressing the interest of his country in New Zealand´s experience in the performance of local administration. The kiwi official, on his side, ratified the will of his Government to support exchanges on these issues and continue promoting new actions that will ensure greater progress in relations between the two nations.
