Minister of State of the Indian Foreign Ministry attends tribute to José Martí.

The Embassy of Cuba in India, in collaboration with the "8one Foundation", held an activity in tribute to our National Hero José Martí, on the occasion of the 127th anniversary of his fall in combat. The event took place at the International Indian Center (IIC), one of the most important cultural spaces in the city, and was attended by Meenakashi Lekhi, Minister of State of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, who in her remarks had words of praise for the universal ideals of Martí in his struggle for independence and his commitment and duty to the Homeland. He even recalled that one of the Cuban vaccines against COVID-19 bears the name of "Abdala", the first play written by Martí and highlighted the close ties of friendship between the two countries.

Also present were members of the diplomatic corps accredited in India, friends of Cuba, teachers and students with their families from various schools in New Delhi.

The Cuban Ambassador, Alejandro Simancas, thanked the Minister for her presence and also dedicated the meeting to the 75th anniversary of India's independence, stressing that we share the same values in defense of our sovereignty, national unity and the fight against colonialism. He also emphasized the validity of the ideals of the Apostle in his anti-imperialism and the resistance of our people in the face of the imperial pretensions reflected in the US blockade.

During the activity, the film "El Ojo del Canario" (The Eye of the Canary) was presented and was preceded by the presentation of the prizes of the contest organized by the Embassy and the "8one Foundation". More than 700 students participated in the contest, coming from nearly one hundred schools in eleven states of the country. The children and young people, between the ages of 7 and 12, were inspired by the work of the Apostle and the Cuban Revolution to create drawings, poems, songs and dances. During the evening, most of the works were exhibited and prizes were awarded to three of them, as well as to the schools with the highest number of participants.
