Namibia, May 29th, 2020- H. E. Dr. Hage Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia, offered an extensive interview to a team from the Cuban Television Information System, led by journalist Milton Díaz Cánter.

The Namibian president reviewed the historic ties of brotherhood that unite Namibia and Cuba. He highlighted the leadership of Fidel Castro and Sam Nujoma, as well as the decisive role of both in establishing and consolidating these bonds. Likewise, he recalled his meetings with Cuban leaders Fidel Castro, Raúl Castro and Miguel Díaz-Canel.

In relation to the Commandant-in-Chief, he highlighted the great personal significance of having addressed the Cuban people in the “Plaza de la Revolución”, during the tribute to Fidel for his death. On that occasion, former Namibian presidents Sam Nujoma and Hifikepunye Pohamba were also there.

He appreciated the Cuban support for his country, during the difficult years of the liberation struggle of Namibia against the racist apartheid regime and after the Independence, reached in 1990.

President Geingob qualifiedthe US blockade against Cuba as an archaic policy and called for its lifting. In this sense, he reaffirmed the solidarity support of his nation to the Caribbean island.

The also President of SWAPO highlighted Cuba's solidarity with various nations of the world, in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ambassadors of Cuba in Namibia and Namibia in Cuba, Sidenio Acosta and Samuel Goagoseb, respectively, also participated in the meeting. Similarly, Grace Uushona, former ambassador to Havana and current Executive Director of the Namibian Presidency, attended.
