National Day celebrated at the Cuban Embassy in Ottawa

National Day was celebrated at the Cuban Embassy in Canada, in homage to the 65th Anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution and the 171st Anniversary of the birth of Cuba's National Hero, José Martí.

The event was attended by the Minister of International Development of Canada, Ahmed Hussen; Sylvie Bedard, Director General for Central America and the Caribbean of Global Affairs Canada; Peter Boehm, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; as well as other authorities of the Canadian government, parliamentarians, accredited diplomatic corps, businessmen, intellectuals, Cuban residents and friends of Cuba.

As part of the event, the Cuban Ambassador, Héctor Igarza, highlighted the historical ties that unite Cuba and Canada. He also condemned the negative impact of the hostile policy of the U.S. government towards the Cuban people and thanked the Canadian government for its sustained support for the resolution presented at the United Nations against the blockade.

The occasion contributed to promoting Cuba as a destination, as well as the nation's traditions and culture, through the performances of the Carret Dance Conservatory company.
