The “78 Dialogue”, promoted by the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz, represented the beginning of a continuous and irreversible rapprochement between Cuba and the Cuban community abroad; it has been strengthened with the passage of time and the holding of three “The Nation and Emigration” Conferences whose fundamental premise was synthesized by Fidel over 4 decades ago when he declared: “(…) the Community must be respected. The Community exists. The Community is a force and the Community is to be taken into account.”
As expression of the unequivocal desire to continue strengthening the ties of its nationals abroad, the Government of the Republic of Cuba officially announces the IV “The Nation and Emigration” Conference to be held on the 8th to the 10th of April of 2020 in Havana; the corresponding invitations will be issued for the event.
Heirs to the tradition of struggle bequeathed to us by our forefathers, Cuban residents abroad constitute an important pillar in the defense of the Homeland, our culture, history and values. In this regard, this IV Conference shall bring together those Cubans who respect and love Cuba, who defend its freedom and independence and who actively oppose the blockade imposed by the government of the United States against the Nation.
In the past, emigration played a transcendental part in the organization of The Necessary War, by which Cubans aspired to build a Nation “With all and for the welfare of all”, as our National Hero expressed. In the present, the participation of all Cubans to preserve the Homeland from those who would like to deny it the right to exist as a sovereign Nation continues to be relevant.
The encounter will also have special meaning for young people who, having been born in other countries identify with, defend and love the country of their parents and grandparents. For them, the Conference will become an excellent opportunity to draw nearer to their roots.
Despite the growing hostility of US policy towards our country and the tightening of the blockade which affects every Cuban man and woman, no matter where they may be, and which makes the family ties difficult, the natural and inevitable rapprochement of Cuba and its nationals abroad will continue; it will continue because of the wishes of our people, in the exercise of their free determination.
As the result of the development of our relations with Cubans residing abroad, national policies today in force stimulate their greater participation in the socio-economic processes taking place in the country. May this encounter serve as a space that is fitting for discussion and joint work for independence, full social justice and the welfare of the Homeland.
As out National Hero stated: “One says Cuban, and a sweetness such as soft brotherhood spreads throughout the depths of our being.”
