Vienna, January 17. The Party of Labor of Austria (PdA) published an editorial/communiqué on the recent removal of Cuba from the List of State Sponsors of Terrorism by the United States, and although it recognizes the measure as a correct step, it calls for the definitive end of the blockade.
The publication in the Zeitung der Arbeit (ZdA), official organ of the Party, expresses that, although these steps are limited, they represent progress in line with the long struggle of the Cuban government and its people. It also recognizes that numerous governments, organizations, activists and personalities around the world have repeatedly called for an end to U.S. sanctions against Cuba, including voices within the United States.
The Party criticizes the hostile U.S. policy and questions its legitimacy. “The current decision is a belated and minimal correction to a long history of unwarranted sanctions and hostilities. Cuba's removal from the list of countries that support terrorism should have been made years ago, based solely on the facts and Cuba's demonstrable commitment to the international fight against terrorism.”
Referring to Cuba's response, the Party recognizes that it has been characterized by resistance and dialogue, in the face of hatred. “Despite the continuous pressures, Cuba shows a clear determination to defend its sovereignty and denounce the unjust measures. At the same time, the country remains willing to engage in respectful dialogue with the United States on the basis of equality and non-interference in internal affairs.”
At the end of its publication, the Workers Party calls for solidarity action in the face of the blockade and unilateral coercive measures and ratifies the commitment of this political force to increase its solidarity work with Cuba.
The Party of Labor of Austria (in German: Partei der Arbeit Österreichs, PdA) is a communist political party of Austria. The PdA was founded on October 12, 2013, and works together with the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association in promoting solidarity with Cuba.
